NSF Grant Spotlights Southern as Emerging Technologies Leader
SCSU awarded key National Science Foundation grant that builds on a long history of leading the way in emerging technology research, innovation, and workforce development.
Jahmai, SCSU MBA Accounting 2025, serves as a Incubator Fellow with ClimateHaven as well as a Tax Intern with Beers, Hamerman, Cohen & Burger where he will become a Tax Operations Staff in 2026. His work with ClimateHaven involves grant writing, operations, and development and has increased his knowledge on how innovators across CT are building the technologies of the present and future. During his time at Southern he was apart of the Werth Industry Academic Fellowship (IAF) where he collaborated with fellows to recover materials from lithium-ion batteries for reuse. He was also apart of the Graduate Student Advisory Committee and a member of the Caribbean Student Association. Both helped develop
community, leadership, and exposure to real-world situations outside the classroom. Jahmai encourages students to not box themselves in. “IAF was originally geared toward STEM students, and I joined as a business student because I was curious and confident I could contribute. That willingness put me in rooms I would not have entered otherwise. Whether that meant learning a technoeconomic model in two weeks or collaborating with brilliant teammates, the growth came from stepping into the unknown.”
