Melanie Burgos

B.S.c. Biology

My name is Melanie Burgos I am a senior at Southern Connecticut State University majoring with a B.S. in Biology on the pre-med track I am also the President of the LatinX in STEM club at SCSU. I wanted to create a space at Southern that focuses on the Latinx community as only 8% of the STEM workforce is Latinx. The mission of the Latinx in STEM club is to spread awareness and promote STEM professionals of diverse backgrounds through on-campus events. Biopath has also given me the resources and opportunity to do research through the John B Pierce Laboratories. JBP lab is a Nonprofit, independent research institute that is formally affiliated with Yale University. I am currently researching data collection and analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) to determine potential cardiovascular risk in women with endometriosis, by determining autonomic activity before and during estrogen suppression. My future plans include attending Quinnipiac University’s master’s in biomedical science program in the fall and eventually attending medical school and specializing in Internal Medicine.

Melanie currently works as a Program Coordinator at the Yale School of the Environment Environmental Leadership and Training Initiative (ELTI). Melanie’s LinkedIn.
